Cypress College is a fully accredited public community college located in North Orange County, California. Since 1967, the program has taken great pride in the success of our students. All of your instructors have worked extensively, or currently work, in the industry. Graduates not only work for all the major airlines and travel companies, many now serve on our exceptional Advisory Board that meets annually to guide our training programs.
The Aviation & Travel Careers (ATC) Department provides educational opportunities in the following areas: flight attendant, pilot, unmanned aircraft systems (drone), airline customer services and operations, travel and tourism, cruise, homeland security, and aviation management.
Apply to Cypress College: First, you will want to apply by clicking on the apply button above. It is easy, free to apply, and it only takes about 10 minutes.
Options: ATC students typically begin with a Basic Certificate (18 units) for the Aviation Certificate 1 (16 units), which usually takes 1 to 2 semesters depending on the number of classes you can take each semester. Student can then work toward more advanced certificates, which usually take 2 to 4 semesters.
Depending on your goal, age, and work experience, you may want to earn an Associate in Science Degree. Students may also transfer to a four-year university for a bachelor’s degree. Click on the Certificate & Degree link to find the list of classes for each certificate and degree. You may also dual major.
Enroll in classes: After you apply, you will receive an email with your student identification number and a date and time when you will be able register for classes. The earlier you apply, the earlier you are able to enroll in classes. We recommend that you begin with the classes listed on the basic (or first) certificate for your area of interest. To find the course list for your program of study, you can visit the Cypress College Catalog (not the schedule), or click on the menu button for your area of interest.
When are the classes? We operate primarily during the fall and spring semesters, but we try to offer a couple of classes every summer. We provide a mix of lecture, online, and hybrid (online and lecture) classes Monday through Thursday, which can be found under Aviation & Travel Careers section of the Cypress College Schedule.
Are there any program perquisites? No. Assessments are required for the General Education (English and math) courses required to complete an Associate in Science Degrees and to transfer to four-year university. If you are only completing a certificate, the assessments are not required. However, please verify that you meet the minimum job qualifications for the position you are seeking. It is important that you do not spend time in classes for a position for which you will not be able to meet the minimum requirements. You can find sample minimum qualifications for each position listed under each career options.
